Still can't find this damn email address...

Still cannot find this elusive email address. I've tried all 3 methods at
http://hellomate.typepad.com/exchange/2003/08/finding_smtp_ad.html but it
just returns 0 matches. The email address is stillbouncing though as well.

Have you tried looking at the public folder email addresses? If you don't
have too many do it manually.

Yes - I have checked all the public folders, it's not there. I did have the
email address setup originally in the Default Recipient Policy but removed
it from this so that I could apply it to the user account specifically. I
have updated the Recipient Update Service and even rebuilt it but it's still
there somewhere!

Thanks - Jamie.

Try this:
Go to AD Users & Computers, right-click on
your Domain | Find | change the Find drop-down to "Custom Search" (you could
also change the "IN" drop-down to "Entire Directory" if you have more than 1
domains) | go to Advanced tab | type
"(proxyAddresses=smtp:user@domain.com)".

This will give you the object - of any type (user, group, contact, public
folders... ) - that has that email address.

Can you provide more details of the problem?
- If it doesn't show up, it's most likely non-existent in your Org.
- Try sending a test mail with a delivery receipt. Does it bounce back or is
it delivered?
- In Outlook, try to send an email to that address. Does it resolve the
recipient's display name?

I tried sending to the address and it bounced with the following:

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed.

server1-IS@mydomain.com (server1 is my machine name)

(The details text file attached contained:

Reporting-MTA: dns;mail.mydomain.com
Received-From-MTA: dns;hotmail.com
Arrival-Date: Mon, 27 Feb 2006 11:09:55 +0000

Final-Recipient: rfc822;SERVER1-IS@mydomain.com
Action: failed
Status: 5.7.1
X-Display-Name: Public Folder Store (SERVER1)
)

If I send from Outlook it just underlines the email address and sends it.

Thanks - Jamie.

That address belongs to the public folder Store on that server.
In Outlook when you try to send mail to that address, it will not resolve to
a display name.
It will also not show up using the ADUC query that I described above.

Using ADSIEdit check the proxyAddresses attribute of the public folder Store
on that server.

- Also, how do you get the 5.7.1? From telnet? Or sending from SMTP client?
- Does sending from Outlook also bounce the message back with a 5.7.1?

That's got it! Thanks Bharat. I wonder why it wasn't listed when I check
using the otehr methods though and when looking using the Exchange System

Did you find the public folder's proxyAddresses attribute in ADSIEdit?

The 5.7.1 returned to message from hotmail is expected behaviour.

What are you trying to accomplish?

- ESM doesn't show email addresses.
- Like I said, the other methods will not return the email address. AFAIK,
that is so because the Public Folder Store does not exist in the Domain
naming context, but in the Configuration partition.
- The address should not be receiving messages from unauthenticated
sources - it is for public folder replication.

Removing an email from a queue without deleting email from CRM
Hi, Say I get an email into my personal mailbox and decide to track it in CRM (3.0). This email then appears in the Assigned queue in My Workplace. I can then accept it and it moves to in progress. Fine so far. But what happens when I've dealt with it and I need to get it out of the queue? I may not want to convert it to an opportunity, but I still need it to be in the history of the Account to which I've related it to. As far as I can make out, if I delete it, it stays in my personal inbox but disappears from the History in CRM. Other CRM packages have a "file it" op...

I do use AVG for a anti-virus, but the weird thing is that this changed over night without me knowingly making any security changes. I wasn't even messing around with settings. RAID 10 still best for DB's?
We run Exchange 2003 Enterprise. We have 3 Mailbox stores which had 1-2 databases in each and each maiailbox store in on a RAID 10 partition. We use to have them on RAID 5 at it was very slow sometimes, our average writes/reads to disk per second were sometimes hitting > 50 msecs. Now on RAID 10 we sometimes get the odd >30 msecs but many when backups are running. We are going to be upgrading our server soon, would RAID 10 be the best way? Plus we will eventually upgrade this new server to Exchange 2007. On Fri, 13 Apr 2007 08:00:11 +0100, "Gonzo" <no@no.com> ...

Still losing pictures
I am still losing my graphics! Here is what has happened: Originally, I started to edit an existing file. Most of the pictures were already there. I added some pictures and text using the insert picture from file method. After saving and re-opening the next day, I had lost all of the old images but still had the ones that I had just added. I replaced all of those pictures using the graphics Manager by clicking on the empty picture in the Graphics Manager and selecting replace picture. After saving and re-opening the next day, now they are all gone. I am using windows metafile images. Today,...

Find formatted cells
Hi Is there a way in VBA to scan a range of cells and pick up the references of any cells that have a particular format applied? The range may have more than one cell with the format applied and I want to be able to use the references elsewhere in the workbook. Many thanks. Jim xl2002 added the ability to find by format. Before that you could have a macro that would search through your sheets looking for cells that match a specific format. But there are lots of things that are in the format of the cell. If you limit your search criteria (font/boldness/fill color/font color), you may eve...

Problem with sent emails
Hi, I have few users that have this issue and I can't figure it out. When they reply or start a new message, they enter the names and addresses fine in the TO and CC fields and they send the email fine without any bounce backs. The weird thing is that when they go and check the sent folder, some of these emails appear with blank TO and CC fields. The problem is that they are not sure if the emails were actually sent or not (sometimes people receive them sometimes they don't). Not sure what is going on. Any idea what is going on or a place to check the problem? Are you sure t...
