SMTP Log entry.

Hi guys,

Below is an extract from our SMTP logs for Exchange 2003.

MAIL, 192.168.16.8, 0, 4, 70, 240, 765, QUIT, -, email5.mailserver.com,

These emails are not arriving properly, and the sender is not getting an
NDR. What does the BDAT indicate in line 4?

Is there a resources anyone can recomment that explains the SMTP commands as
they are dealt with in this log file extract? - I understand the first 3
lines ,and am familiar with Telnet sessions to SMTP /Exchange. I can do that
without problem. But I can'f find any definitive documentation on
troubleshooting SMTP when it goes pear shaped.

Regards,

Fred

Looking again at this log segment, it appears the Exchange Server does not
like this BDAT command it receives from the Senders mail server. We are
using Exchange 2003 Service Pack 1. I do not have the "Send HELO instead of
EHLO" option ticked on the Connectors Property page advanced Tab.

The Sender has problems sending from both Mail client and a form embeded
into a webpage which send emails to our address. The form works when tested
from here. The sender can successfully reply to emails sent from here

SMTP restrictions #2
A few questions: If I configure the "Limit Message Size(KB)" does this pertain to the attachments as well? Also, does it affect both inbound and outbound? If the "Limit Message Size" is exceeded by the attachment does the attachment get stripped and the message (body) go through? If nothing goes through, does the sender recieve an error? Sorry so many questions. Thanks! Message size is the sum of the headers, body and the attachment. There is no setting specifically for the attachment size. When there is a violation, the entire message is bounced back to the send...

We have recently upgraded to Dynamics 10. however, one client id gives the following error: "The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.dll." the dynamics client then closes with a fatal error and sends an error report off to microsoft. This would happen to only one user. The work around to this had been to create a new network login(Windows Server 2003 SBS). This worked for about 10 days; then started getting the same error -- seemingly without any changes to the workstation. The workstation is virus free, ...

IIS SMTP or Exchange SMTP?
I have a situation where I need to insert a smarhost into outbound mailflow in one city. I am looking into linux boxen as well as windows flavors. The one thing this smarthost must do besides receive internal mail and route it out, is stamp a disclaimer on it. I see from http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=317680 that this can be done with VBScript, but the question is, will it work with IIS SMTP alone, or does it require Exchange SMTP to work?
