Question on SP2 and other Updates

Good Day,

I am planning on upgrading our Exchange Server to SP2 from SP1. We are
running on Server 2003 SP1.

From what I can see After I install SP2 the only other updates that I will
need to apply to bring me up to date are the following

916803 MS06-019
912442 MS06-029

After looking on Security Bulletin Search and choosing the following as my
options
Exchange 2003
Service Pack 2
All Updates Severity are checked and Bulletin release date is set to all.

What I don't understand is that when I checked the page that listed the
fixes I did not see listed these updated

984549 MS05-021
873333 MS05-012

If I would have chosen only Exchange with SP1 I would also see these two
with the other two on top.

Can someone please help me out and explain or let me know what I am not
seeing or missing here. I would like to get all the updates installed after
I install SP2

Thank You
Adam Raff

Apply SP2 and then run Windows Update. You can also download Exchange Best
Practice Analyzer to insure you have all required updates.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for posting here.

Based on my knowledge, I agree with the John Oliver's suggestion. You can
install Exchange Server 2003 SP2 and run Windows update on the server.
Also, the Exchange Server Analyzer Tools help Exchange Server
administrators troubleshoot and resolve a variety of operational support
issues.

When you install the Exchange Server Analyzer Tools, you get:

- Automatic updates. Each tool prompts you to download updates if they are
available.

- Minimal installation prerequisites.

- Scheduling capabilities. All tools are designed to be used against
production servers-even during peak times.

- Detailed online and local documentation about any reported issues,
including troubleshooting tips.

- Configuration information and real-time data can be captured for later
review.

- State-of-the-art expert system analysis.

For more information about this tool, please refer to the following web
link:

Microsoft Exchange Server Analyzer Tools
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/downloads/2003/analyze
rs/default.mspx

I hope the above information helps.

Have a nice day.

Good Day,

My understanding is that windows update will not give me any updates for
Exchange. They will give me updates for Windows Server 2003 which I am up
to date.

I have downloaded and installed the Exchange Server Analyzer tool and tried
it out and I saw the option for what updates are out there. It only shows
SP2 for Exchange and that is it. I would figure that it would at the most
show me other updates as well besides SP2 for Exchange.

I am planning on upgrading this Saturday as I was told it pretty straight
forward. I have looked at the readme file and verified with Microsoft that
I have the required Hotfix before the install so I should be all set. If
anybody has any other advise with SP2 or any other updates I would love to
hear them before the install.

Thanks
Adam Raff

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your efforts on taking time to let me know that you already
complete Exchange server SP2 installation. please understand that this
question appears to be consulting in nature. The newsgroup is not the best
avenue for these issue types since we are only equipped to provide
break/fix support. However, we are happy to provide general information and
suggestions (if any) and you may receive recommendations from other
partners. Microsoft offers a variety of services and support avenues for
MSPP partners. One of our goals is to provide information about these
offerings and direct you to the one that best fits this request. For
further assistance, please consider using these resources:

consultative assistance for design, development and deployment issues, code
samples and technology workshops. If you have the MSPP-ISV Competency or

Hi,

Perhaps you misunderstood. I am planning on installing SP2 this weekend and
I would like some feed back from you or perhaps others that have installed
SP2 that may have run into unforeseen issues that were not covered in the
typical text that was written up. I find talking to my peers a great help
since they do a lot of work and come across issues that pop up. This gives
me an idea on how safe or unsafe and what to expect from the SP2 install.
Perhaps I can avoid some issues or a gotcha that have popped up in the past.

No I am not a consultant, I work as a network admin in a small company.

As to the updates, I use the normal windows update service which only shows
Windows Server Updates. I do get the notification via email which is how I
know that there are updates for Exchange which is why I wrote the article in
the first place. Please read the beginning of this post. I guess I should
post this in the windows update group to find out what updates come after
SP2 which is what I am looking for as per my original post. I know about
May and June update but not sure of there are any others that I should know
about before those two and after SP2. After reading what SP2 fixed I did
not see any information on what I thought would be there and what I read, as
to the two updates that I asked about in my original post

The Exchange tools are cool and as I said I have installed and ran it to see
what they do. I found the information that they gave out was interesting
and I have acted on some of it. I hope that after I install SP2 that if I
run the program again it will show me other updates as well.

Thank You for your support on this question.
Adam Raff

Hi Adam,

Thanks for taking time to respond.

Based on my knowledge, Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) offers new
features and improvements to Exchange Server 2003. New features include
support for mobility and message hygiene. Improvements have been made to
address performance and reliability with public folders and with database
size restrictions.

Therefore, there aren't including any security update or Windows update in
Exchange Server 2003 SP2. For more information about Exchange Server 2003
SP2, please refer to the following web link to download online help:

Greetings, I have been using Visio for years, however, something has happened and I can't figure out how to undo it. Basically up until today when I added a text box and entered text, the text went horizontal as it was typed. Today when I add a text box and enter text, the text goes vertical. How do I get back to the old behavior? TIA using text container shape adjusting tool (text block tool), make the text container shape wider horizontally. Have you used Asian text font recently?...check help for "vertical text" "Ray Batig" wrote: > Greetings, > &g...

I've got my paycheck split into different categories currently and now I have to put the 401K amount into a category as well. I didn't see one specifically for this. What do other people use? Should I start using the 401K Manager? I haven't gone through it yet I'm just wondering if it works well and how much benefit I'll get from it. Thanks in advance! The reason I asked this question is that in my project, there are many code/files use the pointer which I need to determine is it is deleted? Can I use: if(p != NULL) delete p; I guess somewhere p has been deleted, but p still not NULL(possible?), the above code might cause problem. More combining companies questions
We too have acquired another company and need to look at all of our options concerning what to do with email. We run Exchange 2003, they run Exchange 2000. What is the best way to combine the two so we can share GAL, free-busy info, etc.? No decisions have been made as far as what we are going to do with their AD. switchboard question 12-26-07
Is there a way to put the names of different switchboard pages on the switchboard form? If you put one name on a switchboard page (in form design view), the same name appears on all the switchboard pages. I understand why this happens, but what if I want the user to be able to know which switchboard s/he is on? Thanks. PS the same thing happens if I go into form design view and put in control tip text. It puts the same text for the same-numbered menu item on two different switchboard pages.
