OWA setup #4

I have a front end server on the inside network on the same subnet as my
backend server. Do I need to do anything special to have the front
communicate with the backend server..other then check the front end server
box. I did all of the basics already. I am going to deploy an isa server in
our dmz but for now I need to make this work. I can get the front ot work but
it won;t work using premium mode on the logon screen but it will work using
the backend server as the owa server even though I am attemping to login to
it from the same server(front end)

There shouldn't be anything special that you have to do. By default, a FE
server will communicate with all BE servers.

I suppose that you are referring to enabling Forms-based authentication? If
this is the case, what specifically doesn't work when you enable it on the
Front-end server? Have you made sure that the default domain settings on
the Exchange and Public virtual directories are the same ("\") for both the
FE and BE? If you use Forms-based auth, the default domain is required to
be "\" (no quotes).

I guess you only need to use ipsec when the front end is in the dmz? the
front end should not have any mailbox stores mounted correct? I also have it
set so the fe end will not mount the stores at start up, is this correct also.

Right - you don't need IPSec when both the FE and BE are on the same IP
subnet. I think you still need the Information Store service started for
certain operations, but mailbox stores do not need to be mounted

Hello,

FE servers need a mailbox store, but there must not be any mailboxes on it.
the SMTP service needs that one.

Protecting Cells #4
I want to protect a few cells in a worksheet - not the whole worksheet. How do I do it? Sorry, you have to protect the whole worksheet, then UNprotect all of the cells except those that you wish to secure. Alternative may be to provide data validation on the cells that you wish to protect, but this is not particularly secure (copy/paste will override, for example). For that matter, nothing is secure, I guess. OWA Doesn't work. #2
I have Exchange 2003 running on Server 2000. A couple days ago OWA stopped working. (I believe the previous administrator made a security change before he left but I don't know what.) If I browse to mail.mydomain.com I get a "You are not authorized to view this page" message. If I browse to mail.mydomain.com/exchange I get "The page cannot be displayed". One thing I have noticed, under IIS Manger, none of the Exchange virtual folders have a default document assigned. Should there be one? Thanks for any help. We then save the changed transaction and go into Post Scheduled Payments. Once in this screen, we no longer see our scheduled payment.
