E03sp2 FE -BE/GC RPC Problem

Current setup:
Both Exch03 sp2 behind Firewall and IDP Ports 80 and 443 open to FE

We recently created the FE server, moving RPC and OWA to it to increase
performance. Previously had single server RPC over HTTP working. RPC over
HTTP using 3rd party Cert SSL configured and working for existing clients.
Unable to create new profiles.

Been through
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827330/en-us#XSLTH4234121123120121120120

https://fqdn.domain.com/rpc gives expected ACL result
https://fqdn.domain.com/rpc/rpcproxy.dll gives expected blank page w/ lock

RPCPing.exe returns successful

RPC Proxy Server has basic and NTLM selected per KB

Client configuration identical to existing (working) profiles

RPCDump tool gives following:

You certainly need more ports open than 80 and 443 between your DMZ and
internal network for a standard Exchange FE/BE configuration to work. In
fact 443 is not necessary as all Exchange server to server web communication
is via Port 80.

Please confirm if you have other ports open, although I can't imagine that
you don't as your FE would be "throwing a wobbler".

I just want you to confirm for me that you took the single server out
of the RPC/HTTPS mix and then removed the require SSL from the box?

Then you put the FE in and made the FE an RPC FE and then the BE an
RPC BE.

You've missed a couple of things from your posting and the
documentation isn't the most clear in the world when changing from a
single to an FE/BE solution.

It's not in the DMZ - no DMZ created. Both are on same network behind the
firewall and IDP. Also found out that I can create a new profile internally,
just not external. I'm thinking it's IDP related, since the same ports are
open to the new FE that were open to the BE (Previously single server doing
RPC).

Yes, we removed the RPC from the (now) BE server and the SSL cert to the
(new) FE server. We actually had a MS ticket open for this and they assisted
on the entire process because there was no stinkin documentation! :) It's
been almost 6 weeks and we find that we can no longer create new RPC profiles
externally. I am beginning to suspect this has something to do with the IDP
but do not know what I can do to the (consultant managed) IDP server to put
my finger on the problem.

I think there is enough to suggest that the IDP is the source of the
problem. The problem with intrusion detection is that it takes a lot of
tuning to minimize false positives and the change you describe would cause
it to have a kitten and therefore has a strong chance of being the source of
your problem.

We've had teh logs on both the Firewall and IDP reviewed and neither are
showing any rejections to the RPC server. Any other suggestions?

WMP11: A variation on the "sound but no video" problem
I was hit by the "sound but no video" problem today. I researched likely fixes, and was on the point of downloading codecs when I realised that I'd put my player in "Compact Mode". As soon as I returned to full mode, the video appeared. I'm unlikely to make this mistake again in a hurry, but given the state of my memory these days, that means I might do it again tomorrow´┐Ż Is there any setting that would warn me when I'm being stupid (yes, I know, it would drive me nuts in a few minutes), or which would force it out of compact mode when attempti...

Problems with Mutiple Personal Folders...
Hi Folks, Had a MAJOR screwup with Outlook 2002 (10.6515.6626) SP3 on W2K Pro "patched to the max" last week. I came in for the day and fired up Outlook and it said it was doing the install. Thought that was strange but I copy all PST's to another drive each night so I told it to proceed. Well it went ahead and finished and opened and I had NONE of my email or other folders... So I played around with copying these backed up PST's to the proper Outlook folder, etc. and nothing went smoothly although I KNOW I have done this before on other PC's... I ended up, som...

Outlook 2000 IMO archive problem

When I select archive and provide a date, the arching icon appears on the bottom right of the screen for about 5 seconds and then it stops. Nothing is archived. Other than that, Outlook works fine. The only thing I can think of if that these PC's/users were recently converted from Outlook Express. Could these messages be marked differently so that archive doesn't work? Just a wild guess. Any help would be appreciated. I found the proble...

Problem Using Sort in macros
I'm new to working with Excel macros, so if this is a dumb question, I apologize. I was asked to automate view changes for a spreadsheet ( by name, by date, by birthday, etc.) Using sort to accomplish the changes worked quite well manually. The problem is that when sort is used in macro (to make the procedure easier), it selects only what it selected at the time the macro was written. If more lines have been added, it ignores them when the macro is run. Is there a solution to this? Thanks Hi Jacob, Instead of sorting a static range, say, A1:A10 try something like: Dim RngToSort a...
