DST Exchange patch after DST desktop patch? Any conflicts?

We are getting ready to do the DST patch on the Exchange servers. I was
wondering if there will be any problems if some of our users have jumped the
gun and installed the desktop patch themselves already? Will the Exhcange
patch be able to tell whcih mailboxes have already been patched by the users?
I don't want to adjust the time twice.

Thanks,

Rich

- One option is to have users specify the time in the subject field of
mailboxes, another one being to have users print out appointments from the
affected extended DST period, particularly the first 3 weeks from March 11 -
April 1.
- If users with DST 2007 time zone update have created new appointments in
the affected period, those will get wrongly rebased if you run the Exchange
Calendar Update Tool to rebase those mailboxes.
- If all users get their DST 2007 time zone update (KB 931836) at about the
same time, you can run the Exchange Calendar Update Tool with the
/ONLYCREATEDPREPATCH option and specify a UTC time when the users may have
applied the DST 2007 time zone update
- Another option is to exclude those users when you run the Exchange
Calendar Update Tool (by ensuring their mailboxes are not in the input file
you use), and have those users run the Outlook Calendar Update Tool
themsevles using the /ONLYCREATEDPREPATCH command line option
*Using the /ONLYCREATEDPREPATCH option requires the patched Outlook Calendar
Update Tool (KB 933146)
- MIIS MVP Jason Sherry has a script to export Calendar items for the
affected extended DST 2007 period

Exchange 2000 and DNS in MS Adv Serv 2000
Hi everyone, I have a couple of problems on my Win 2k Server where Exchange 2000 is installed. I configured the computer as its own PDC and have DNS configured. The following ipconfig information for the machine is as follows: ip address -- 192.168.200.4 ip gateway -- 192.168.200.1 ip dns -- 192.168.200.4 When I go to send an email from a client machine with Outlook Express, I can connect to the SMTP service. But the email never gets to its destination. When I do a nslookup at the cmd line on the server, I get a "time out" message for dns server...

DST Question
All, Can anyone tell me how recurring appointments that fall within the beginning and ending windows of the new DST will respond once Exchange/Outlook have been patched? I somehow got tasked to explaining this to our user group... My understanding is that recurring appointments that were originally set up within one of the windows will show a 1 hour difference from expected during the windows. For example, in 2006 I created a recurring appointment on March 8, with the time being set to 2:00 Central. My expectation is that during the start window, this appointment will show 3:00 Cent...

Exchange defragmenting
Hi, I had just do an offline defragmenting with my exchange 2003 server. Because of low space in my c drive so i used d drive to store temp database. Now in d drive there are four files created by the system: tempdrfg.edb tem.edb tempdrfg.STM tem.STM While size of the actual edb and stm file (store in exchsrvr/bin directory) does not reduce. Moving Exchange
We have Exchange 5.5 SP4 running on Win NT 4. One of our HD's is failing and since it is an old machine we figured time to get a new one. Our new box will be running Win2K rather in NT. I figured the following migh work: -Order completely new server to be used to replace our current exchange server. -Bring that new server online and move the mailboxes over to the new Server. -Update the users client profiles to point to the new server -Take our current exchange server with the HD issues and rebuild that with all new SCSI drives. -Take that rebuilt server and load Exchange 5.5 a...

Exchange 5.5 <-> Exchange 2000 cannot rebuild ADC
I have two servers, one is Exchange 5.5, one is Exchange 2000. They are normally connected via the ADC. However, occasionally, these servers will lose sync, and the only previous recourse was a reboot, and a rebuilding of the ADC. Required a bit of extra "manpower", but it got the job done. So, we went through and tried it again to fix a problem, and now we cannot get the ADC back up. When I try to set the destination or source for the ADC to place/get information to/from the Exchange 5.5 system, I get the following error: "The Exchange server specified does not meet the...

Fax Software in Exchange
Is there a fax software package either by Microsoft or a 3rd party that will allow incoming faxes to be sent to users mailboxes? Sure. There are a number of them. Remove Exchange 2000 from organization, whilst keeping Exchange 2003
We have an Exchange 2000 server (SP3 running on Windows 2000 SP4), which was the first Exchange server in the organization. Originally it had AD installed on it. We have since installed a 2 node a/p Exchange 2003 cluster (SP1 running on Windows 2003 SP1. No AD running on the cluster), and migrated our users across to it. AD has been removed from the Exchange 2000 server Our AD domain functional level is Windows 2000 mixed We would like to decommission the Exchange 2000 server. Are there any gotchas that we should be aware of, due to it being the first Exchange server in the organization? Wh...

Backing up desktop to laptop
Hi Folks: I have a desktop and laptop. I travel frequently and would like to "copy" the desktop .pst to the laptop. Would it be possible to simply delete the .pst file from the laptop, and then just use Outlook's Backup function to backup ("copy") the desktop data to the laptop ?? Other than this being a time consuming process, any caveats ?? I have a third party program that's prblematic and poorly documented. Bug with AD and Exchange
Hi, May I make a request to an MVP to report the following bug to Microsoft. Renaming a user account causes outlook to display an incorrect name. That is name <incorrect name>. Using adsi edit to rename the CN value causes major problems....Deleteing the Outlook autocomplete cache does not work and this is not an Outlook problem. More DST stuff
Hey guys, So I'm at the point where I need to install 926666 (all server OS and clients are patched). I have E2K3 with SP2 installed and my store version is only 7638.2. Any idea what will get my store level up? WIndows update would be reasonable but how would windows updates affect my store version?
