Bug with AD and Exchange

Hi,

May I make a request to an MVP to report the following bug to Microsoft.
Renaming a user account causes outlook to display an incorrect name. That is
name <incorrect name>. Using adsi edit to rename the CN value causes major
problems....Deleteing the Outlook autocomplete cache does not work and this
is not an Outlook problem. Once again I make a plea to an MVP to report this
problem to Microsoft. If there is a fix, I haven't been able to find it. Many
other people in these newsgroups have the same problem but there is no clear
solution!
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanking You

Sorry you're having this much trouble, but I haven't. I rename users all the
time. Is the Outlook "incorrect name" you're referring to in the renamed
user's Outlook? Usually modifying the user's Outlook profile (control panel
| mail) to remove/re-add the Exchange mailbox resolves this quickly. Outlook
caches the info (and I am not referring to autocomplete here).

Hi Lanwench,

Thanks for helping me out here. I am stumped on this one. The problem I am
having is with the autocomplete feature. The GAL resolves with the correct
name etc. My problem is in the autocomplete list. It still shows the old
username in the following format new.name < old.name>. I have deleted the
..NK2 file. I have turned off cached mode.I have manually deleted the entry.
However this autocomplete name visually still shows the old name in <>. IT
always resolves to the correct name when accepted but it the autocomplete
list that doesn't even if you delete it.
Thanks

I am having the same exact problem. I looked everywhere in Active
Directory and there are no traces of the old name, but the old name still
shows up when Outlook does the name lookup, as seen on this page:

http://www.118.ca/misc/outlook-wrong-alias.jpg

I have shift-deleted the lookup, closed Outlook, went back in, performed
another auto-complete and the same name shows up. I have removed the .NK2
file and problem persists.

Although the old name is nowhere to be seen within the ADUC MMC snap-in,
when I did an csvde export, I do see the old name... twice. How do I go
about changing that?

Thanks...

Chris.

I found the solution. I did a search on Google Groups, and saw a few posts
about ADSI editing. I couldn't find a lot of information from the posts,
but I did go to Microsoft's site to download the tool.

You can find it here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=49AE8576-9BB9-4126-9761-BA8011FABF38&displaylang=en

Once I downloaded that, I extracted the file, and in the support.cab file,
I extracted the adsiedit.msc file.

I ran that, found the user I am having problems with under the Domain branch
and then look up the properties for that user.

I then changed the attribute called "legacyExchangeDN" so that the last
item "cn" now has the new alias.

Then, go back to the clients, shift-delete any previous lookups in the New
Message window, close Outlook, and delete any NK2 files.

After all that, when I tried testing it, I now get the new name and new
alias.

Of course, the ADSI Edit tool can be potentially dangerous and use it at
your own risk.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for that. I have used the ADSIedit tool and have located this value,
but when I changed it I no longer able to send to the user. I was getting non
deliverable reports. DO I have to reboot or wait....Are you able to send to
the user that you are having problems with? I cannot send to them after
changing CN in the legacyexchangedn

Thanks

It's also part of the windows Support Tools.

Oops! Now anyone that replies to an old message sent by that user will
get a NDR!

Add the *old* value of legacyExchangeDN to the user's "E-Mail
Addresses" tab. Add a "Custom Address" and give it a "type" of X500
and a value that is the old legacyExchangeDN value.

Hi,

I have tried all of this last week. I am using small business server 2003.
When I use the ADSI edit and change the legacyexchangedn value, I cannot send
mail to the user. I cannot send new e-mails to the user. So once I make this
change this user cannot receive any mail and I get the following: "
The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this
message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient
directly to find out the correct address.
            <domain.com #5.1.1>"
And I still get the wrong username in Outlook. Please report this as a bug
to Microsoft because renaming a user shouldn't require ADSI edit in the first
place. I hear what you guys are saying but its not solving my problem. SO
frustrating GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

There is no simple way of changing the legacyexchangeDN, as it is hard coded

export the mailbox, remove the maill attributes from the AD account, delete
the mail store, re-enable the AD account with exchange attributes, and
exmerge the data back in....you will still want to add the legacyexchangedn

Yes, I got an NDR the first time I sent to the user, but once I rebuilt the
Offline Address Book and downloaded it on the Outlook client again, it was
fine.

Adding Muliple Data Series
Hi, I am writing a VB .NET addin for excel (2000) which pulls data from MS SQLS using ADO.Net and passes data the data into Excel as a range. The program needs to be able to generate charts with multiple series from these various ranges queried from SQL. I am able to create a XY Scatter plot fine on the first pass but am unable to find a way to correctly reference the x and y columns on any additional series. I seem to need to be able to set the series x and y values separately but are unable to find a way which works?!? I would be most grateful if someone could help me understand ...

BUG? Outlook 2003 Not Responding
Hi all, I'm currently running Outlook 2003 (11.5608.5606) along with Active Sync 3.7 (Build 3083). I have the *Hide When Minimized* option set Outlook (thanks MS!) Since my upgrade, I've noticed the following behaviors: When my pocket-pc is disconnected/off: If I *minimize* Outlook, it hides itself in the system tray, and can (almost) always be restored. If I *close* Outlook closes, and can be restarted. When my pocket-pc is connected/on: If I *minimize* Outlook, it hides itself in the system tray, and can (almost) always be restored. Transactions By Category Report Bug (Money 2005)
All, I'm experiencing a problem that I can't seem to work around and I hope somebody can help me out. I ran the transaction by category report and selected category A. I then went to the category setup screen and moved category A into B. I then went back to the transactions by category report and this time it won't open. Instead, it acts like it's going to open, but then immediately reverts back to the report menu screen. I'm pretty sure it's doing that because the last selected category the report ran was for category A and that category doesn't exist anymore...

Migrate exchange maintaining sbs
Hi guys, I've a very doubt about how to proceed with my project.. There is one SBS2003sp2 and I would like to install new Exchange 2010 on a separate windows 2008 standard server. These are steps that I want to do: 1) Install Exchange 2010 on new win2008 server (standalone, not domain controller) 2) move mailboxes on new server 3) stop all exchange services on SBS This should be enough to migrate exchange users? Could be some problems for SBS ? thanks very much for any advice Bye andrew In article <acf5bdb2-04c1-47fb-8334- 3367fa139c6c@k33g2000yqc.googlegroups....

I work for an international company and am constantly faced wit spreadsheets of financial data supplied in one currency that must b totally converted to another. Duplicating the spreadsheet and building a formula in each cell tha refers to a "seed" cell with the conversion rate is extremely tim consuming, and must be duplicated each time a new original sheet i received. As far as I know, the Euro conversion function only works for th companies actually involved in the Euro community, and can't be use for dollars to Euros, or Pesos to Pounds. OL2003 Signature Bug?
I have four pop-mail accounts in a single profile. I'll call the Accounts A, B, C, and D. "A" is the default account. In OL2003, you are able to create a different signature for each account. I have created "New Message" and "Reply-to/Forward Message" signatures for two of the accounts (A and C). When creating a new message, the signature for A appears correctly by default. If I switch the "send from" account to C, the signature for C replaces the signature for A. This is expected. If instead, I switch to accounts B or D, the signature...

microsoft exchange #2
I access my office e-mail by using Outlook through Microsoft Exchange. Depending on the computer that I am using to access Outlook through Exchange there are times that I cannot reply to an e-mail. I can read e-mails and send new messages but I cannot reply or forward e-mails. I never had this problem on my home computer until yesterday when I downloaded the recent Windows update. I always assumed the problem was the fire wall on the computer I was using but now I have the problem on my home computer. Anyone know what is causing this problem? Jim Is the Windows Firewall on? Money 2006 net worth bug
I have noticed that one of my net worth over time favorite reports refuses to load. If I watch the CPU, it appears that $ is in an infinite loop with the load bouncing back and forth between 50 and 80%. But the really amusing thing is this: during the loop if I select "custom date", change either the start or stop date (move either to a new date, or just touch one - change a date and move it back) and select the APPLY button, the load will converge. If you select the OK button, the load will not converge. I have saved a net worth report that converges and attempted to reload...

Item Level Recovery for Exchange
Hi, We are testing DPM 2010RC. We tested it for SharePoint 2010Beta and Item Level Recovery works Perfact. Does same thing is available for any version of Exchange Server. I mean Can we Restore Individual Mailbox and Email from Backup taken by DPM 2010..? -Tejas Hi Tejas, DPM 2010 does not support Restore individual mailbox or Email. DPM supports restore at Storage group level or database level. However DPM recovery UI, enumerates mailboxes under a DB (useful in finding the DB containing a mailbox) but the recovery is at DB level only. -- Thanks, Nagesh Thi...

Broken Reference to Added dll Trashing Access 2007
I (foolishly) installed a copy of an add-in program called Redemption to my Access front end; I have routinely copied the master copy of the front end accdb database daily so all of the other networked computers have the same front end, but did not install this program there. Then I decided I didn't need it and de-activated now. Now I get, on all of these computers, a message immediately that there is this missing or broken reference. How do I permanently install Access that I don't want this reference; in fact, I'd like to remove it from the single computer it was...

Hi We want to rename our Windows Server 2003 domain that also has Exchange server 2003. Is this a bug or not?
I replied to an email that was archived in Outlook 2007. The 'sent' copy was placed in the archived sent folder instead of the one in my personal folders. Is this normal or a bug? Access 2007: bug? quick filter list is sometimes empty
Access 2007 has a great new feature which allows to easily filter by selecting different values from a drop down box on top of each column. However, sometimes the list of values simply is EMPTY in some columns. It seems that this has to do with the complexity of the underlying query. Does anyone know how to circumvent this? Or is it simply a bug? Kind regards Georg When the list of unique choices gets too big they don't show. You have some control over this office button/access options/current database/Filter lookup options (look at bottom of screen). It takes tim...

Bug in queue an activity association
When I see, for example, in my work queue, an email, and I make the following steps: 1. Open Email in New Window (from work item queue) 2. I delete email (not queue, just Email) 3. When I return to queue, even if I refresh, email is still there in my queue. 4. When I try to open email again from queue, I get error because record is not there anymore. Invistigatin further, I saw that ActivityParty and ActivityPointer tables doesn't have activityid, but queueitembase table has not deleted reference. This seems an error, and as workaround, I need to execute SQL directly (which btw is n...

BUGS BUGS BUGS
Dear Microsoft. I can understand programming bugs - you invent, you create, everyone makes mistakes etc etc. But how on earth can you have bugs in financial calculations? Take Finance 101 book. Replicate formulas. DON"T CHANGE THEM! I have already complained about mistakes in calculating bond yields in M2005 (has it been fixed?) where accrued interest is simply disregarded in calculations. Performance calculations in multiple currencies ARE ALL WRONG!!! here is example "buy" any asset in the account which is in a currency different to your base (say base is US$ and a...

_USE_MATH_DEFINES bug
There is an interesting problem with the _USE_MATH_DEFINES preprocessor symbol, which is used to get math constants defined. There are two different compilation models used for Release and Debug configurations, such that using _USE_MATH_DEFINES as it is supposed to be used in a Debug configuration compiles successfully, but using it in a Release configuration causes an undefined symbol error.
