Backup And Restore Issues

I'm in the process of creating a backup server. I'm having problems backing
up my exchange.

I am using NTBACKUP, I choose to backup
microsoft exchange server/pdc/microsoft information store/first storage group

After running the backup I see 3 folders; log files, mailbox store and
public folder store.

There are no files inside these folders. SHouldn't there be database files
there?

Hi,

You won't be able to see the database files in your backup file - thats
normal.

Check the application event log if there are events saying backup started,
backup ended and transaction logfiles deleted you should be fine.

But it is always a good idea to perform a disaster recovery test.

Date issue between Windows and Macintosh version
I am at a loss to explain this one and need help to try to resolve. I have a workbook that was created on a Macintosh and I put the date September 1, 2004 in a cell. I copy the file to a Windows machine and the date shows up correctly. On the Windows machine, I open a new workbook and copy the date to the new workbook. The date now changes to October 30, 2000. What I have found is that Excel for the Mac has a different number in the cell (I call it the date offset but do not know what it is really called). The number in the workbook created on the Mac is 36796, where on Windows the da...

Does Outlook's Auto Archive Always APPEND TO or OVERWRITE a Previous Backup?
I ask because in another thread it was stated that auto-archive always appends, but lots of advice on multiple sites caution the user that it always over-writes. If it always appends, then I can use it. If it always overwrites, I can't. I think this is a very important distinction for the user and thus we should know one way or the other which is true append or over-write. Thanks. Yes, it always appends, because it is adding individual items to the = folders in the archive .pst file, not overwriting that file.=20 --=20 Sue Mosher, Outlook MVP Author of Microsoft Outlook Programmi...

Outlook 2007 attach item issue
Morning, we are currently running a mixed environment with 2000 and 2007, the problem is that a user in 2007 attaches an item to a new email and then cuts it in to word 2007 and then sends the word document as an attachment in an email, opening it in 2007 works fine but when opening the attachment in 2000 the emails that are embedded within the word document are not accessable. I have tried attaching an item to an email and sending it to a 2000 user and outlook opens this not a problem i have also tried opening the word attachment in word viewer 2007 but it is still unable to open the email...

Stationery issues- Second attempt to post
This is my second attempt to post this, because, while my previous post shows up in the search, it is MISSING from the newsgroup. It's not the only stationery post missing. My first search on "stationery" returned several questions (but no answers) and then, when I searched again, the messages started disappearing, one by one, from the search results. Hmmm...Wonder why that is. I am, unfortunately, using Microsoft Outlook 2003. I am trying to set up a very very simple stationery, just something with our logo in the upper lefthand corner. Simple, right? No, not with Mi...

backup to a file?
hi, can I backup my exchange 2003 to a file (instead of backing up to a tape drive)?. I will then copy the file to elsewhere. Our exchange server is in a different (distant)location and for some reason the tape drive is not workng. So until that gets resolved, I need to have some other way.(temporarily) I am referring to the 'file' destination option in windows backup. Is this possible and also, will doing this cause any issues while restoring?(if needed) thanks!!! Yes. Just specify a path and ntbackup will create you a bkf file which you can copy whereever. -- Thanks, Bria...

Great Plains Backup
Is it possible to schedule a GP backup? If yes how can this be done? You can schedule backups for system and company databases to occur on the days and the times that you specify. Only a system administrator can open the Schedule Backup window to schedule database backups. To schedule a database backup: 1. Open the Schedule Backup window. (File >> Backup >> Schedule button) 2. Enter a name for the schedule. 3. Select the company to back up. The path where the database will be backed up is displayed. You can modify the path, as needed. 4. Mark the days to ...

weird OWA issue...seems like symptoms match a common problem but theres a twist
Hi all. Weird problem, we have our exchange architecture setup and working for about 95% of our users. That 95% group can simply enter a simple http address like webmai.company.com into their browsers and they will be redirected to our real exchange mail server address via https. Problem is, there is a handful of folks that it wont work for that last 5%. When I say does not work, what I mean is that the redirect does not happen from http to https. The same user can go to a different machine and it will work for them. Thats the twist, based on everything I have read the symptoms indicate a vi...

PST Issue
Good Day, We are running Office 2003 with exchange 2003 sp1. Because of issues that we are having with our exchange database and backing up. It was decided to off load older files to PST that is on a network drive. They can access the pst files via the network and move email with large attachments there. Out of the blue a user called up saying that he lost some folders in the PST I looked at it and assume that perhaps he deleted them without realizing it. (I did a recovery that was 6 months old and the files were still not there). I scratched this one up as user error. In the next ...

NT Backup and other backup issues
I'm getting an error when I try to schedule a backup system every day at a certain time. (0x8070005) I'm using an Admin account. ??? Is there any software that can backup files without changing them into a backup format? If I have 1000 files in 100 folders I'd like to see 1000 files in 100 folders in the backup location. Does any backup software do this? And it would have to be done incrementally so you're not backing up the same thing over and over for nothing. SendInput issue
I need to send two keyboard strokes to another application. I am using SendInput and from the docs, it should... "Simulate[s] a series of mouse, keyboard, or other user input events without interruption". The problem is that it doesn't send the input WITHOUT interruption. Using Spy++, I've noticed that the if the SHIFT key is being pressed while I am sending my keyboard events, it gets mixed up with my messages. It is possible that I have misunderstood the docs or that I simply don't know what I am doing. Well, what I need to do is to send two keys (four messages, two f...
