Problem -- Personal.XLS is being modified message keeps poping up.
When I open any workbook using Excel 97 and then try to open another instance of Excel, I always get a message saying something like, " Personal.xls is being modified by 'me' ." I certainly am not deliberately modifying personal.xls. When I change its attribute to 'read only' this does not happen. Can someone tell me what might be causing this message by trying to modify personal.xls and what I can do about it? Thank you.

Hi Personal.xls is the workbook where you usually store macros. It will be in your XLStart folder which means that whenever you start XL, it will open - and your macros will be available. When you try to start another instance of XL it tries to open personal.xls again - and reports that it is already open. -- Andy. The layout: Exchange 2003 SP2 w/OWA Outlook 2003 SP2 I can connect to the email server with my Outlook client. I can open all emails prior to Tuesday and perform all email functions (reply, forward, etc). Since Tuesday, I cannot open or perform any email functions with any messages. imap security problem ?
I recently ran a port scanner /tcp viewer on a win2k server that has exchange configured on it. An MX record was created for that machine at the ISP so that all emails get delivered directly to it. Now the port scanner / tcp viewer is reporting a constant TCP connection between port 143 on the server and another machine -which is NOT the ISP. What am I seeing, a security hole ? Should port 143 even be open ? Where can I look for that in the exchange setup ? If you're not using imap you should stop & disable the IMAP sevice. Strange problem #2
User is running Excel 2002. Her normal routine is to open Excel, then open 8 different files (all linked to other files). As worked is completed on each file, files is saved and closed so Excel never has more than one file open at any given time. Excel shuts down every morning after she runs the 3rd or 4th file with various errors. If she runs this routine by opening Excel and then closing it after each file - the errors don't occur. In Outlook 2003 how I keep IMAP messages for long?
I set up an IMAP folder which keeps only the last week's mails and does NOT display older ones. Incidentally it's the only account that does this to me while other IMAP accounts dont. I have gotten my main e-mail onto a spammer's list that does not respect wishes to be removed. It is casino, pills, etc, all from one spammer, using multiple free addresses to spam me. The last time I saved a back-up file (of my Money 2002 file), I was out of floppies, so I saved it to a CD. Now, every time I open Money it places a copy of the same file in the CD burner, even though I select "Do not back up" and there isn't even a CD in the drive. HOw can I make it stop this?? A really interesting Outlook problem!
Hello everybody! I've got an interesting Outlook file (112 KB RAR-ed) which shows the following behavior: when you open it (i tried Outlook 2003), it shows up OK, but no item could be deleted or moved. It tells "Errors have been detected in your Outlook data file, close all programs and use the Inbox repair tool". But scanpst (Inbox Repair Tool) finds absolutely no problem even with -logv 9, the most detailed one. What can you suggest me to do? I have had occasional problems with index publishing on filezilla. My webhost doesn't think frontpage is secure with extensions. I have no extensions according to them but I must download from filezilla. What is baffling is that my index doesn't always update to them. My webpages do, sometimes, sometimes not. I have tried save as the filename to my f/documents/website/index and still when I update filezilla it shows the previous date still. Even after reboots the next day. personal.xls won't open when I start Excel
Recently, the personal.xls file won't open when I start Excel. The box for "Open all files in " on the general tab under tools/options is blank. When I've tried to change this to the Microsoft Excel startup directory (C:\Documents and Settings\MyName\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART), which does have the personal.xls fiel in it, it won't let me. Problem with Local time to System time conversion
Hi, Any help would be much appreciated, and here's my problem: I've used the function SystemTimeToTzSpecificLocalTime() to convert a UTC based time to a local time and everything works fine. However,when I try to do the reverse, that is, from a local time back to a UTC time. Strange problem #2
User is running Excel 2002. Her normal routine is to open Excel, then open 8 different files (all linked to other files). As worked is completed on each file, files is saved and closed so Excel never has more than one file open at any given time. Excel shuts down every morning after she runs the 3rd or 4th file with various errors. If she runs this routine by opening Excel and then closing it after each file - the errors don't occur. So as long as she closes Excel after she runs each file and starts a new session for the next file - everything runs smoothly. Any ideas? Do ...

In Outlook 2003 how I keep IMAP messages for long?
I set up an IMAP folder which keeps only the last week's mails and does NOT display older ones. Incidentally it's the only account that does this to me while other IMAP accounts dont. There's no apparent setting in Outlook 2003 that I can use, is there? I'm probably off base, but it sounds like you set a view to only display the last weeks worth of e-mail. outlook XP: blocking email messages with a certain hyperlink
I have gotten my main e-mail onto a spammer's list that does not respect wishes to be removed. It is casino, pills, etc, all from one spammer, using multiple free addresses to spam me. Keeps saving a CD copy
The last time I saved a back-up file (of my Money 2002 file), I was out of floppies, so I saved it to a CD. Now, every time I open Money it places a copy of the same file in the CD burner, even though I select "Do not back up" and there isn't even a CD in the drive. HOw can I make it stop this?? A really interesting Outlook problem!
Hello everybody! I've got an interesting Outlook file (112 KB RAR-ed) which shows the following behavior: when you open it (i tried Outlook 2003), it shows up OK, but no item could be deleted or moved. It tells "Errors have been detected in your Outlook data file, close all programs and use the Inbox repair tool". But scanpst (Inbox Repair Tool) finds absolutely no problem even with -logv 9, the most detailed one. What can you suggest me to do? Index and some other web page problems
I have had occasional problems with index publishing on filezilla. My webhost doesn't think frontpage is secure with extensions. I have no extensions according to them but I must download from filezilla. What is baffling is that my index doesn't always update to them. My webpages do, sometimes, sometimes not. I have tried save as the filename to my f/documents/website/index and still when I update filezilla it shows the previous date still. Even after reboots the next day. personal.xls won't open when I start Excel
Recently, the personal.xls file won't open when I start Excel. The box for "Open all files in " on the general tab under tools/options is blank. When I've tried to change this to the Microsoft Excel startup directory (C:\Documents and Settings\MyName\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART), which does have the personal.xls fiel in it, it won't let me. On trying to create the first email message each time after starting Outlook 2007, I get the following message: The Add-inn "FaxExtension" (C:\Windows\System32\fxsext32.dll) cannot be loaded and has been disabled by Outlook. Problem with Local time to System time conversion
Hi, Any help would be much appreciated, and here's my problem: I've used the function SystemTimeToTzSpecificLocalTime() to convert a UTC based time to a local time and everything works fine. However,when I try to do the reverse, that is, from a local time back to a UTC time. The function TzSpecificLocalTimeToSystemTime(); is not supported under windows 2000 (only supported on XP/server2003) So I tried the function FileTimeToLocalFileTime() as a work-around but my time is always off by one hour because of daylight saving.
