which better: Frequency vs Histogram

I read "Explore Histograms" in
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011109481033.aspx and found it
educational. However, I can't see a difference in output between using a
Histogram and using the Frequency function.

Can anybody share the pros and cons of each?

I think you have missed the point. The article says that the table
produced by the ATP histogram tool is exactly the same as the table
(with same bin definitions) produced by the FREQUENCY function. The
difference is not in the values calculated, but in the fact that the
histogram table is a static table that will not update if you
subsequently change the data, whereas the FREQUENCY function gives a
live formula that would update.

API for UNICODE vs WC
Hi All, I have been coding in UNICODE in VC6.0 for long time. The Wide Char (TCHAR) is only 16 bits long, which can support a maximum 65536 characters. But in fact Unicode has much more than 65536 characters. Office XP is able to support more than that. So I believe there must be set of new API for unicodes. Can anyone tell me where can I start looking at? dlls
Can someone tell me the difference between an extension MFC dell and a regular MFC dll? I need to create a dll that is essentially a passthrough to another dll and give it a simplier interface (EXTERN "C" & _cdecl) rather than the ms dllexport type. I have tried making several dll's with various options and while they compile ok and depends.exe likes them fine, when I try to link to them I get that it is an invalid file. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks If your dll is going to be used strictly by a MFC module, you should typically make a MFC Extension DLL. When you mak...

Is there a better way?
OK, I have an application that controls some devices through the serial ports. I use worker threads to actualy handle the serial ports and it works well. On one of the threads I need to perform several different sequences at varying times during the program execution and I have been using volatile bool variables to "trigger" these sequences and posting messages to get responses. This scheme works but it seems ackward at best. Is there a better way to "trigger" actions inside a worker thread and get a response? Ron H. x-- 100 Proof News - http://www.100ProofNews.com x...

Which is better Event or Mutex ???
Hi, I have a program in which I have two threads which start executing from the time application starts execution till the time application quits (Before quit the child thread is killed). Both the threads needs to notify each other before they access a resource in my case its USB port. As far as I think Event is idle to be used in this scenario. I wanted to know whether is it or not. Sorting
How can I sort a range of numbers in (columns and rows)in order to calculate frequency distribution? eg. 57 61 52 50 63 85 62 48 75 60 52 45 48 83 30 65 60 72 50 41 How do I sort them to determine how many times the number 48 appears? Check out the FREQUENCY function in Help. It does not require that the data be sorted or in a single row or column. If you want the count of only a specific number, you can use COUNTIF. Frequency charts with non-numeric data
If I have a column of non-numeric data (for example 500 different fields, each field stating the color of a car ie green, green, green, red, red, silver etc) how do I draw a graph showing the frequency of each colour type? For example green 200, red 100, white 100, silver 100 (preferably with the % for each). The countif function will work combined with the graph wizard, but his becomes very labourius for many categories (or colours). For those familiar with statistics, this is a pareto. There is a pareto function in the Data Analysis Add ins but it does not appear to work with non-numer...

Money vs Quicken comparison anyone? Especially interested in online bill payment
Is there someone here who can compare Money to Quicken? The trade rags I've read seem to indicate Money is as good as or better than Quicken. Can anyone comment on that? I've been using Quicken since 1990 and seen Intuit go from a first class great company with a fantastic product in Quicken to a company that seems to've past its peak and gotten out of touch. While MS is certainly not immune to mediocracy and bureaucracy itself, my experience with Quicken Deluxe 2008 (after 18 years as a very happy Quicken user) has given me a fresh incentive to take a serious look at ...

Print preview Access 2000 vs Access 2003
We just had XP installed (previously running Win 2000) and got Access 2003. When I run a report in an Access 2000 app that does a print preview, the preview opens up differently than it did with Access 2000. It seems to default to 'to fit' rather than '100%' as it did before. 'To fit' gives an unreadable report. Is there any way to fix this ??? I am displaying a custom print preview toolbar if that makes any difference. Thanks. It's a little unclear which version you are now referring to. Callout Vs Workflows
Hello, I have few queries for callouts and workflows - What is the difference between callouts and workflow? When to use callout and when to use workflows? Is there any difference in overload in execution for both? regards Vipin Hi Vipin, The main difference is the intended usage. Workflows are meant to be used to automate business processes, like sending an email with a specific email template to the manager when a new opportunity is entered into the system. You can do that without writing a single line of code. Callouts are .NET assemblies written in your favorite language. A workflo...

A better filter??? Where?
I use Outlook 2000 against an Exchange filter. I have to have a white list, so I try to not have any filters on Exchange. My trouble is that my filters don't do me any good. I keep getting undeleted messages in my delete box that trigger my "You've got mail" envelope, so I have to maximize Outlook to see if I have e-mail. The envelope then won't go away until I either mark all my messages to read (which means moving to "deleted" where I see my latest message), or read an unread message. I don't have authority to upgrade Outlook nor to upgrade the compa...

Contacts vs Personal Address Book. Can't pull emails into TO fiel
Howdy, I'm using Outlook 2k3 and having a slight problem. WHen I view my Contact list in the main view, I have two sets (not sure why but I'll be combining them). ByVal vs ByRef when generating tree
I have a tree data structure in xml. I currently use ByVal and recursion to draw the tree. My understanding is that each time I pass the child node to the recursive function, it creates a copy of the node containing items at the point and all subitems. I'm wondering it it would make a lot of difference in memory usage if I pass the child node by ref. teddybear schrieb: > I have a tree data structure in xml.
