Scatter Chart data
I have several spreadsheets that contain several workbooks each. Each
workbook has multiple charts (xy scatter) plotting test results
(y-axis) vs date tested (x-axis). Typically the test results are
numbers, however, when testing is not conducted the analyst enters an
asterisk (*). The asterisk is given a value of zero in the chart so I
have to go to the source data and set it to exclude the data containing
the asterisk - it works but is very time consuming! To get around this I
have shaded the cells that are not tested and deleted the asterisk,
changed the way Excel handles empty cells from ...how to customize the x axis in scatter plot?
I have two columns of data
I used scatter plot to plot column B as Y value and column A as the X
value. The plot itself looks fine. However, the x axis label and major
ticks are shown at 0, 10, 20, 30, ...
What I want is for the x axis label and major ticks to be at 1, 2, 3,
10, 20, 25. In other words, I want to them to correspond to the value
in column A. I could not figure out how to do it. Is it doable in

On Excel 2003 I am using the custom chart "Line-Column on 2 Axes". I would
like one column (series 1) for the first y-axis and 3 lines (series 2-4) for
the 2nd y axis. It seems that when adding series, that 2 columns are
automatically created when you exceed 2 series. Every seried added after the
second series results in lines for the 2nd y axis. If I delete one of the
first 2 series (columns) then the next series which is a line is
automatically converted to a column. My desired end result is to have only
one column on the 1st y axis and the 3 lines on the 2nd ...bar chart on 2 axis
I am trying to create a bar chart. I have 9 series for which each have 2 sets
of data value. I want to create a bar chart where each series is represented
by 1 bar, with the chart having one set of values along the x axis and one
along the y axis. I am having great difficulty with this. Can you help at all?

Doesn't matter what he's plotting. Here's how to get all axes you're entitled to.
Usually when you tell Excel to plot a series on the secondary axis, all it does is
add a secondary Y axis. To get a secondary X axis, choose Chart Options from the

I first have to locate the distance ranges and then I perform a IF AND

SITUATION: I've never used Exel for chart-creation. This question
probably makes that all too obvious.
Using Exel 2002's chart wizard, I was able to generate a time-series
chart which displayed my data. However, on the resulting chart, the Y

display the years specific to the dates involved (e.g. 1920-1947).
I right-clicked on the Y Axis and choose <Format Axis>, followed by
the Scale Tab. There I set "Minimum:" to the starting data of my time

When drawing CDialogBars along the top, left, and bottom edges of my window,
I note that they are separated from each other by a little grey dividing

Hello, I'm trying to make column graphs by using excel 2002. The
problem is, my y axis values have some negative numbers, so the x axis
labels overlap with some of the columns. Is there anyway to relocate
the x axis labels while keeping the category x axis crossing at zero?
Double click on the axis. On the Patterns tab, for Tick Labels, choose the
Low option. The axis will remain at zero, but the labels will move to the
bottom of the chart.

To rename a chart, hold the shift key down and select the chart.
This selects the chart object instead of the chart area. You can
then rename as usual.
Thanks Ed, so simple when you know how.

Windows XP Professional
I have a simple bar graph that shows the number of times a specific
"reason code" is used and only the top ten reason codes are shown on the
graph. Now, any reason code can fall into one of two different buckets.
I've been tasked with altering my graphs to not only show the number
of occurrences for each reason code, but to change the fill area of the
bars based on bucket assignment. I will leave one bucket property as
default, but would like to change any reason code bar that falls into
the second bucket to a different pattern.
I have a pivot chart (standard column chart). I can do a "format axis" on
the x-axis and change the alignment of the labels on the axis.
However when I "Show data table" from the Chart Options, I am not able the
change the alignment of the labels anymore. Is there a way to do this?
