Extracting hyperlink data from XML file

Hi
I need to extract the data from the following XML file (fragment) which
consists of and order number (in this case 415045) and some related part
numbers into a .NET dataset. The part number data is contained in other parts
of the file which are referenced by links to named anchors eg I need to
extract the 'id190' from this line of code: <ns1829687187:Part
href="#id190"/>.

How do I do this please?
Am new to XML so any help much appreciated.

That fragment is not well-formed XML with namespaces as several prefixes
(soapenc, soapenv, xsi, ns1829687187) are not bound to a namespace URI.
So we need to see the namespace declarations if you need help processing
that XML.

Thanks for the reply.
Here is a truncated version of the whole file:

The top element with type 'ns1829687187:FormatBFilter' is a list of orders
which are assigned arbitrary id nos as links (#id4, #id5). These links refer
down to next element (type 'ns1829687187:FormatBOrder') which contains the
order number. This element also contains a list of parts related to the order
no. that are also assigned id nos. (#id910, #id911, #id912). These links in
turn refer to the final element containing the part nos (prefix, base and
suffix) which is the data I need to extract from the file along with the
order no.

Hope this helps.

That is not well-formed either, it needs namespace declarations e.g
   <soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="someURI">

These are the declarations at the top of the file:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"
xmlns:soapenc="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/"

<getOrdersForDateRangeResponse

xmlns=""/></getOrdersForDateRangeResponse>

<multiRef id="id0" soapenc:root="0"
soapenv:encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/"
xsi:type="ns1829687187:FormatBFilter"

<ns1829687187:filterId xsi:type="xsd:int">94</ns1829687187:filterId>
<ns1829687187:Orders
..

..

This file is generated by my customer so I have no control over its structure.

XmlDocument xmlDoc = new XmlDocument();
xmlDoc.Load("file.xml");
XmlNamespaceManager namespaceManager = new
XmlNamespaceManager(xmlDoc.NameTable);
namespaceManager.AddNamespace("ns1829687187", "http://obom/service/types");
foreach (XmlElement part in xmlDoc.SelectNodes("//ns1829687187:Part",
namespaceManager)) {
   Console.WriteLine("href is \"{0}\".", part.GetAttribute("href"));
}

If you only want to access the first Part element then use
SelectSingleNode instead of SelectNodes.

Hi again
Thanks for this. I need to do this in VB and have got this far but am having
trouble with For loop:

Dim XMLResponseDoc As New XmlDocument
Dim nsManager As New XmlNamespaceManager(XMLResponseDoc.NameTable)
Dim element As New XmlElement

XMLResponseDoc.Load(strXMLResponseFile)
nsManager.AddNamespace("ns1829687187", "http://obom/service/types")
For Each

Next

A VB version would be much appreciated.

Thanks

The syntax for the For loop would be:

For Each part As XmlElement In xmlDoc.SelectNodes("//ns1829687187:Part",
namespaceManager)
    Console.WriteLine("href is ""{0}"".", part.GetAttribute("href"))
Next

Hyperlink CBO Ascending order
Hello, I have a form that has two Combo boxes. One is to select a department(Collateral, Loan Accounting, Inaging etc... and the second is a CBO that has different items hyperlinked for that department like databases, forms, spreadsheets etc.. So when a user selects Loan Accounting from the first dropdown then all the forms, databases, spreadsheets etc that pertain to Loan Accounting are listed. The problem I am having is when I add a new item to the Loan Accounting Table which is feeding the hyperlink CBO, even though I am sorting it in the table it doesn't sort on the CBO? It ...

Compile data from several workbooks
I have multiple workbooks for different projects. they are all in separate sub folders. Within each wookbook is a worksheet I call Bug. The Bug sheet pulls the data from that workbook which I need in a separate master workbook. I want to pull the data from every Bug worksheet into my master workbook without having to open each file to force it to update. I can do it cell by cell using a direct link but that is a lot of work. I have compiled a list of each workbook including the path. I can use that path and get the data using =INDIRECT(ADDRESS(2,3,,,F3) where F3 is the path. ...

CFileDialog file filter
Using the MFC, how do I "filter" files using the CFileDialog Class? eg. use the "Files of Type" Option List? eg, If I only want to list *.doc files? What member function or other class / object interaction do I need? I'm using MS VS C++ .NET 2003 standard. Thanks all in advance. Hi There, Flags can be set in the format "<Type Text>|*.ext.....|". e.g you can set "MS Word Docs|*.doc|". Note that string ends with a '|' otw you'll see an extra junk entry in the file type combo.. Archive hosed my Money 2003 File!
Around the first of the year, I archive my Money 2003 file and it messed up my checking account to the point where I have to change the starting balance when I reconcile. It seems that Money archived all transactions older than 1/1/2005, regardless of whether they were reconciled yet or not! I could complain about that forever it ticks me off so much. I manually added back the transactions that were still outstanding and if I fudge the starting balance each month, I am able to reconcile as long as I take the "ignore differences" option when I am balanced by my reckoning. My quest...

I have a scatter chart with the following info : sales price, square footage, and subdivision. With the x and y axis being sales price and square footage. There are some entries where i will have several sales in one subdivision and i would like all those points to show up in the same color. How do i get several points to show up in the same color instead of excel assigning each entry a new label? Include all the related points in the same data series, rather than as a different data series for each point. -- David Biddulph "affordablegreen" <affordablegreen@discussion...

extracting individual numbers from "ranges"
I'm trying to get EXCEL to extract stock prices quoted in individual cells as 52-week ranges --e.g. 11.76-19.90-- and do the following calculation: (higher price - lower price)/lower price Obviously, this a problem because each cell appears to handle the range as text or something. Is there are way to get EXCEL to handle the "text" (or however else it is interpreting what's in the cell) as individual numbers? Great thanks for any help. Hi do your entries always look like lower_number-higher_number if yes you may try the following formula in the adjacent row (lets assum...

extracting hours from a sum of time
I have a cell which sum a bunch of cells containing an elapsed time. The sum totals to more than 24 hours. I have to a cell with a cost per hour and I need to caclculate the total cost. The problem is that the hour function returns values in the range of 0-24. My current sum is 25:30 and the hour function return 1 and not 25. Any ideas how to bypass it? It "returns" the correct number, but doesn't show. Format Custom as [h]:mm and it will. To convert to a number that you can multiply with an hourly rate, first multiply by 24; times in Excel are fractions of a day and a day is s...

Can I extract unique cell values from every nth column?
I have a range that covers B5:XA160. For each row, data is entered in 11-cell groups: date, some numbers, description (a text value), more numbers, and more numbers. At first it was enough to merely count how many times certain descriptions appeared, because those were the only ones we would see - or so the story went. Now, I need to extract the unique descriptions AND provide a count! Actually, I'm cheating a bit. I'm using SUMPRODUCT to return the number of times the expected descriptions appear, and by subtracting these from the total number of text values I get a count of &quo...
