I am trying to copy content from a website and paste it into word, and retain italicized words so I don't have to format the document by hand.
How can I do this? I've searched online and I keep finding info saying that a clipboard icon should pop up when you paste into Word, and then you can click on "keep source formatting," but the icon is not popping up!?
I went into Word > preferences and the "paste options" preference is clicked on. Help!

I have come across a weird situation. I am running Excel 2000 and I have
come across this problem on both the XP and 98SE platforms. When I open a
spreadsheet report with several columns of data (sales, units, item numbers,
item category, etc...) one particular dataset an item category number set
comes in as General (in terms of Properties) and the number is aligned on
the left side of the cell. If I write a formula (ie vlookup) that
references this cell I get an N/A. If I overtype the number (a five digit
number beginning with 0, but only the last 4 digits are visible in the cell)

I have a .CSV file that is automatically generated by a program.
Apparently, when the file is opened with Excel, the numeric fields that are
enclosed in double quotes in the file and look like "123,456.1234" are being
formatted by Excel and displayed with only 2 decimals. The cause of the problem
seems to be the comma in the number, which I don't really want to remove.

We are in the process of upgrading our systems entirely. Making huge changes
to the hardware and software.
One change is going from SQL Server 2000 to 2008.
2008 has the new datetimeoffset data type, which for us could be a God-send.
In reading online however, it seems that the date time is always passed in
as a string. Is there no function that allows us to pass in a datetime and
an offset or do we actually have to do as I have seen all over the the
Internet and convert our dateTime values to a string, then concatonate the
offset and pass it in that way?

These cells have a conditional format attached where the
cell ranked first (1) is filled yellow (Gold?).
My problem is I want to colour the cell gray (silver) if

Hello! I am trying to set cell A5 = A1 + A2.
The problem that I encounter is Cell A1 is all text and Cell A2 is a
Julian Date that I converted to form of 5/1/2005.
When I try to set Cell A5 = A1+A2 I lose the Date Formatting and Cell
A5 brings over the text and the julian date.
Any way to do this?

I have a case where a single cell has a bunch of text in it. Some of the
text is in red. Some is in blue. When, I select and copy portions of text
from the cell and paste into the middle of another cell, I lose the color
and other text formatting.
The key here is that I'm only selecting a PORTION of the text in a cell and
then trying to paste this portion into the middle of the text in another

I have now sorted the counting issues on the cells I have so I can extract
occurences within date ranges. These dates are for various projects in the
rows and basically forecast in time periods. However, how can I assign their
individual project name to them when they are extracted so instead of the
number of occurences for a particular date, it would for example extract 1 as
Project 1 from a particular cell(B2 perhaps) then indicate another occurence
from cell Y23 as Project2, so I can see which stages fall on which dates.

I am using Excel 2007 and I am having an issue with conditional
formatting. I have 2 columns of data that I'm working with: Column "c"
which contains both names and some empty cells, and column "i" which
contains dates and some empty cells. If there's a name in column c
then there is definitely a corresponding date in the same row in
column i. However, there are sometimes blank cells in column c dates
that have dates in column i and some rows that have blanks in both c

I have a set of cells that show the fraction of #complete/#total. They
are formatted as fractions so that I can custom format them such that
those >=50% turn green and those <50% turn red. The problem is that
for a completion of say 8/10, excel automatically simplifies to 4/5.
Is is possible for excel to still recognize the cell as a fraction but

However, CF will not place number values in cells.
Can format only as in Fonts, Borders and Patterns.
What would you like to have done?
