Timeout error on email attachments

Hi,

Our CRM system has been operating without problems for almost a year.
Suddenly, about 3 days ago, we started getting timeouts when attempting to
attach files to emails. It makes no difference how big the attachment is,
or to which email/contact/record etc it is being attached - it still times
out. Today, we now appear to be getting timeouts when saving updated
records, whether they are quotes, contacts, accounts etc.

I'm pretty sure that all updates have been applied to the server (we are
using the web client for front end), and cannot see any errors logged in the
event logs on the server.

More information:

Server is over spec'd DP Xeon with 4Gb RAM on RAID5
All clients are LAN based WinXP SP2

Below is an example of an error message when attempting to save a record:

      Microsoft CRM Platform Error Report:
      Error Description:
      Timeout expired

      Error Details:
Details on this error have not been provided by the platform.

      Error Number:
      0x80040E31

      Source File:
      Not available

      Line Number:
      Not available

            Date: 09-15-2005

            Time: 10:47:38 AM

            Type: Platform Error (2)

            Server: crm

      Query String:
      /Activities/Phone/edit.aspx&pId={B7017B88-6700-4335-979C-A46B962AE091}&pType=2&pName=Sheldon%2C%20Paul&partyid={B7017B88-6700-4335-979C-A46B962AE091}&partytype=2&partyname=Sheldon%2C%20Paul&partycode=2&partyaddressused=&contactInfo=02%208905%204222

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Dan,

Thanks for responding, I really appreciate it.

I guess I should say that although I've plenty of experience in coding for
..NET and general systems admin, SQL has never been my strong point. When
you say to check the database space, I'm not entirely sure what you mean.

There is ample spare disk space on the server (80+Gb), however I have
noticed that the database files are quite large.

The primary datafile (MSCRM) is just over 2Gb, and the transaction log file
is just over 3Gb. We have approx 5000 accounts and 20000 contacts. There
are a lot of emails with PDF attachments (from our quoting system), so I'm
guessing that the ActivityMimeAttachment table is quite large, but I don't
remember seeing anything about size restrictions.

We are running the full version of SQL2000, and I have checked the database
properties to ensure that there are no restrictions set on the size of these
files.

If you can help any further, I would really appreciate it.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris

Yes, that's basically what I meant, disk space and auto size increasing is
on still.

I would check memory usage on IIS (w3wp.exe on Server 2003, Inetmgr.exe
on Server 2000).

Does running an iisreset return the system to a working state for a certain
amount of time? If so, it may be worth monitoring memory. Do you have any
custom processes or applications using IIS etc?

Cheers

SQL timeout
Is anyone familiar with a timeout setting for SQL. As long as we continue to use CRM the speed changing from one window to the next is fine, but if we go to another program(outlook, excel, word, etc.) and then return to CRM there is anywhere from 20 to 30 sec. delay when attempting to change pages in CRM. Timeout when change Role
Dear All, I cannot change the role, because when I change and save it I always got timeout. When I cek the role it again, the record is already changed. But the role itself does not change. Record of role become different than the reality. Anybody can help me?? Rgds, Frans One thing I would recommend is to keep changes to existing roles to a minimum. Especially if you have a large BU hierarchyy as the roles are replicated to all child BU's and changes need to be propogated. When I say keep changes to a minimum, I mean just change a few privileges at a time. Don't go in and mo...

Custom fields in Email Templates
I have created a custom field on the case form, which I have also included in an email template that is triggered by a manual rule. When I save my Case with the custom field filled in and then run the manual rule, the email that is delivered does not include the value from my custom field. Should this work? Thanks, Matt This should work. Please provide more info. What type of field is it? Did you add the field to the template manually or using the template editor's Insert/Update Dynamic Data button? Error when starting Outlook 2003 #2
Hello, I have a problem with Outlook 2003. When I start the application I receive the following error: Microsoft Outlook 2003 is not installed for this user. Please run the setup again. I already tried a repair, reinstall. I installed it under Administrator and I made the user local admin, en also installed it as the user. So it's not a security/permission reason. When I log in as a another user I receive the same error, so it's not a profile issue. Anyone suggestions? Thanks in advanced. ...
