If a contact or record does not exist, the system attaches the email nowhere!
Of course, you can see this, if you re-open it in the CRM-Form, or - like
Matt posted - always check these mails in the Assigned queue, but -is this
really practical (efficient,fast, etc.)?
I think, the following would be a good solution:
If the system can't assign the mail to a existiing record, a windows is
opened automatically, so the user can either assign the mail to an existing
record or create a new record (like it was in v1.2).

If you are using CRM 4.0, in Outlook click on the CRM menu item and then
select Options. On the Email tab, there's an option to track:
-All E-mail messages
-E-mail messages in response to CRM E-mail
-E-mail messages from CRM Leads, Contacts and Accounts
If you've got the third option selected, and the replying individual's email
address is not in a CRM lead, contact or account, the message won't be

I have been trying to figure out why e-mail will not track on my Inbox
in CRM. I have seen a number of variations on this issue.
What's different about this issue is that I can track e-mail
sucessfully in any sub-folder of my Inbox, just not my Inbox.
I tracked the request/response stream with fiddler and found that when
I track e-mail from my Inbox a final delete request is being sent to
CRM, which is resulting in the e-mail activity being deleted from CRM.
When I track e-mail from the other folders underneath the Inbox
everything works fine and a delete request is NOT being sent.

We have a user here that is having problems with Track in CRM / Regarding
buttons. They disappear when she opens an email. What's the best fix?

CRM 3 desktop install, for Outlook 2003. On Windows XP SP2. Rollup2/3
The user experiences that, when he clicks on the "Track in CRM" button in
the mail-editor, and sends the mail, the mails doesn't get tracked properly.
This shows as his "History" on the contact doesn't get updated.
Also, the little icon next to the mail used to change into a CRM icon, when
viewed in the "Sent Mails" folder.
What has been tried so far, in an attempt to solve the issue:

Many of my users have hundreds or thousands of contacts they want to
add to CRM. Many go in without issue, but some names get hacked up in
all kinds of strange ways. Example: Dr. Danielle Johnston MD has the
salutation "Dr." and the last name of "Danielle Johnston MD", no title
or suffix. However, Tim Murphy III, Esq. has the first name of
"Esq.", Last name "III", middle name "Tim Murphy". The sales rep did
finally find Dr. Johnson alphabetically in the Ds and the attorney in

I'm having an issue with tracking records in CRM. When I click the button,
nothing happens. If I hit the 'Set Regarding' button I do get "An error
occurred promoting this item to Microsoft Dynamics CRM." When creating any
new emails in Outlook, I'm not even seeing the CRM buttons on the ribbon bar.
This is the case with contacts as well.
There doesn’t appear to be anything relevant in the event logs and the
diagnostic tool doesn’t come up with anything either.
The only thing that may be out of the normal is that I previously had the

In CRM 3.0 when you track an Email in CRM the only way to then open it in CRM
is to expand open the email first and then click the View in CRM button
(Unless you already have a "regarding" link setup which allows you to go
straight to that.
It's a small annoyance but is there anyway to add the "View in CRM" button
to the main fat outlook client toolbar? Then when you select track you can
then select view without having to open the email first everytime.
Again small annoyance but I'm suprised the developers didn't pick up on it.

Sometimes the buttons "Track in CRM" and "Regarding" appear in MS Word.
Clicking the track-button causes a crash of MS Word.
I like the possibility to track a word document in CRM from Word, but I'm
sure this is not standard functionality. (-;

This issue shows up when you are using Word as your email editor for
Outlook. What is happening is that the CRM toolbar used for tracking email
in CRM is also being displayed by Word. Clicking on this button in Word

I have an issue with one client computer (the others work fine), where the
"track in crm" button suddenly doesn't show when I open an e-mail. It shows
in the outlook toolbar, but not in the e-mail itself. I fixed it last time by
repairing the CRM 3.0 client installation and applying update rollup 2 and 3,
but now the problem has returned. Please help!

The user is using Outlook version of CRM 4.0.
The particular user in not able to see 'Track in CRM' option when he opens
up the outlook form.
As far as I know we dont have the option to remove synchronization of
e-mails from 'Set Presonal Options --> Synchronization'.

1) If using Outlook 2007, is the button on a different ribbon tab (e.g.,

Is it possible to disable the "Track in CRM" feature in the Outlook client? I
still want emails to be able to go out from CRM, i.e. via workflows, and I
also want users to be able to attach other types of activities to records. I
just don't want users to be able to promote an Outlook email up to CRM. Not

I have a problem when I try to track an email(with a gif image inside) in
CRM. The email just can't be tracked. Then I installed this hotfix KB925532
that suppose to solve this problem. The email could be tracked now but the
image has been put in the attachment as attachment.bin that I could not open
later on. Is there anyone knows this problem? Is there a way to solve it?

when i track an email from outlook to CRM and set it regarding a case the
description of the email in the case is very long and contains all sorts of
HTTP and XML nonsense... e.g.

I have a client using CRM 3, with the CRM client installed into
outlook 2003 (and the problem also exists with outlook 2007). They are
running CRM client version V3C with Update roll up 3.
They have a problem in that one member of staff needs to be able to
see the 'Track in CRM' button when viewing other users calendars. The
button appears fine when the user views their own calendar.
The user has the ability to view the other users calendar, do they
maybe need some additional rights on the other users calendar, or is
this feature just not available in CRM?

I've found that users with this issue typically have a proxy set in IE under
the Connections > LAN Settings. If there is a proxy set here - you'll need
to remove it.

We are running CRM 3.0 with a mixture of Outlook 2003 and 2007 clients, with
the CRM integration plugin installed.
Is it possible to customise the window that pops up when the "Track in CRM -
Set Regarding" button is clicked in an email? There does not seem to be any
way of filtering the list of cases etc that is returned in this window, and
once you have more than a few dozen cases in the system, relating an email to
the correct case gets increasingly time consuming. To be able to filter
automatically on non-resolved cases would be ideal.

The email can be tracked manually by having the user use the "Track in CRM"
button. With CRM 3.0, the Exchange CRM router is an optional component that
gives you the ability to automatically promote email threads to CRM.
In addition, CRM 4.0 will not require Exchange to automatically track email.

This is a strange issue, but we have 1 user that when sending an email out
